There is a particular kind of pain that leaves no visible mark.
Nobody hit you. Nobody went hungry. The family was in church every Sunday.
And yet — something has always felt off. A quiet ache underneath an otherwise functional life. Relationships that leave you feeling unseen. A loneliness you cannot explain to people who were there for all of it.
"You don't need a dramatic story to have a real wound. Silence was its own kind of damage."
What you are carrying has a name. It is just that nobody ever gave it to you.
Silent Scars is the space to finally name it.
Is This You?
You might be right for Silent Scars if:
You describe your childhood as 'fine' — but when you look honestly, something was missing that you've never quite been able to name
You are high-functioning, high-achieving, and quietly exhausted. The gap between how you look and how you feel is wide
You keep ending up in relationships that leave you feeling alone, unseen, or like you are working harder than the other person
You are the one everyone leans on. You cannot remember the last time someone held space for you
You know your patterns. You can see them clearly. And you still can't seem to change them
You grew up in an African family — on the continent or in the diaspora — and you want healing that actually understands your cultural context
You have tried to talk about this before and been met with 'after everything your parents did for you'
You are ready to stop carrying this quietly — and to finally understand where it came from
What We Explore Together
Five sessions.
Five Wednesdays in September.
Over five live sessions every Thursday in October, we go deep into the specific wounds that shape African families — the ones that don't make it into mainstream therapy conversations, the ones most surrounded by cultural silence.

The Wound With No Name
Emotional neglect and the invisible wound. We begin with what childhood emotional neglect actually is — not abuse, not violence, but the consistent absence of emotional acknowledgment. We name what was missing, and why naming it is not disloyalty. It is the beginning of truth.

The First Man
Before there was a boyfriend, a husband, a disappointing lover — there was a father. Or there wasn't. This session is about the invisible blueprint he left behind. The template you didn't know you were using. The wound that shows up every time you choose someone new.

The Eldest Daughter
She cooked when she was nine. She mediated when she was twelve. She knew her parents's problems before she knew how to spell them. If you were the responsible one — the strong one, the peacemaker — this session was written for the child inside you who never got to just be a child.

God Said. Culture Said. Mama Said.
Three of the loudest voices in an African childhood — and what each one told you about what you were allowed to feel, say, and need. This session untangles faith from fear, community from control, and tradition from trauma. You can love where you come from and still name what it cost you.

The Love You Are Learning to Receive
The final room. We have named the wounds. Now we ask the harder question: what does healed love actually look like? Attachment, relationship patterns, and what it takes to build the kind of connection that was never modelled for you. You are not starting from zero. You are starting from awareness.

Your Facilitator
Daisy Nyawira
Licensed Counselling Psychologist, African childhood trauma specialist, and founder of Tata's Wellness Centre.
She has spent years sitting with individuals — on the continent and in the diaspora — helping them trace the roots of patterns they could see but couldn't change. Her work is grounded in psychodynamic theory, attachment theory, and a deep understanding of the specific cultural forces that shape African lives.
Daisy does not speak from textbooks alone. She speaks as someone who has done this work herself — who knows what it costs to look honestly at a family you were taught to protect, and what it makes possible on the other side.
